Just like its larger cousin, the Intex pool needs a filter and pump to circulation and clean the water. Unfortunalty you can just buy any old pool filter and pump to use on your intex above ground pool. You need to buy one specifically made for your swimming Pool.

Intex pools offers a pool filter and pool pump combination called the Intex 4000 GPH Kyrstal Clear Swimming Pool Filter and Pump.  This particular filter is built for pools that are 7000 gallons or larger. However, if you use something this big on a smaller intex pool you will cut your filter time in half which can save you money.

The great thing about this filter is that it’s easy to install. It’s all one unit so you only have to attach to hoses to it and you are on your way to filtering your swimming pool. This filter also uses a cartridge to filter the water. Unlike a sand filter this filter can be easily cleaned by removing the cartrigdge and rising it down with a hose, it’s that easy.

You can also buy yourself a sand filter for an Intex pool. Intex makes thier own sand filter. What I always tell people is that sand filters are the lazy man filters. Reason being is the fact that they are so easy to clean. Unlike a cartridge filter you need to remove to clean, a sand filter allows you to just use a method called backwashing. What backwashing does is run water up through the sand in the filter removing all the dirt and debris it has trapped and moving it out of the filter through the backwash port and out into a backwash hose. That’s all it takes to clean a sand filter. There is no need to take the entire cartridge out and hose it down.

Don’t get me wrong both of these methods are easy and simple to clean, now it’s time to choose which filter is the right filter for you. If you buy an Intex pool at a store you may not have  a choice in what kind of filter will come with the pool. The good part is that after you buy your pool it’s easy to replace your filter with the filter of your choice whether it be a sand or a cartridge filter. Try the one you get and if you don’t like it you can always switch.

Congratulations on the purchase of your Intex pool! The proper care and maintenance of your new Intex pool ensures that you and your family can enjoy the pool safely. Your new pool will require chemicle treatment routinely to keep the water in the best condition for family enjoyment. A few basic chemicles purchased from your pool store can keep your pool in tip top shape.

It is vital that you store all pool chemicals stored properly and out of reach of children and pets. Consumption of these chemicles can be toxic. For your own safety, wear protective clothing, such as gloves and/or goggles while handling pool chemicals. If chemicals come into contact with your skin, flush immediatly with water. Always discard empty chemical containers, never keep them for reuse.
